Ignore Opposition Taunts — Bamba

Alhaji Moctar Musah Bamba, a Deputy Minister at the Office of the President, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to offer practical support to the NPP government in its efforts in rebuilding the nation and also debunk unfounded allegations being peddled by the opposition to discredit the government.

He said the recent utterances and outbursts of some NDC functionaries are part of the party’s vain strategy to dent the image of the NPP in order to win public sympathy for the 2004 general elections, considering the fact that their chances of emerging victorious next year are very dim.

Alhaji Bamba, who is also the MP for Wenchi East, was addressing separate durbars at Wenchi, Badu, Koase, Tromeso, Nwoase, Nchiraa and Aponsakrom, all in the Wenchi District of the Brong Ahafo Region at the weekend. He said the number and quality of development projects undertaken by the NPP in its two-and-a-half years reign far surpass what the NDC executed in 19 years.

Alhaji Bamba noted with pride that NPP does not discriminate in the distribution of development projects along party lines, arguing that is why it is undertaking many viable projects like road construction and the Keta Sea Defence Project in the Volta Region which was neglected by the NDC, even though the party considers the area as its “World Bank”. He advised the people to make a lot of sacrifices through hard work in order to make the nation a better place for all.

Alhaji Bamba stressed that the NPP government will never harass, intimidate or antagonise anybody, either a Ghanaian of an alien based on political lineage. He said government officials would not take the law into their own hands but refer people who commit crimes to the law enforcement agencies and the courts to deal with them.

The deputy minister noted that even though Ghana abounds in natural and human resources, the economic mismanagement of the resources by the NDC government compelled the country to resort to the HIPC initiative. He called on the people to live in peace and unity and eschew negative tendencies that have the potential of plunging the nation into chaos, as is the case of neighbouring countries.

Alhaji Bamba said through the government’s pragmatic policies, the cocoa industry, which was on the verge of collapse, has been revitalised to play a vital role in the economic recovery programme. He emphasised that good governance, coupled with the rule of law, exhibited by the Kufuor administration has earned Ghana international recognition.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Nana Kwadwo Seinti, stressed that the NPP’s positive change will reflect in all spheres of human life and all sectors of the economy. He emphasised that the NPP believes in actions and deeds and will therefore, not make any vain promises.

Mr Kwame Aidoo-Boateng, the Wenchi East Constituency Chairman of the NPP, assured aliens in the country that the NPP government has no intention of repatriating any law-abiding aliens. He said this debunks the false impression created by the NDC during the 2000 electioneering campaign that the NPP, being an offshoot of the Busia-Danquah tradition, would deport all aliens if it won political power so people should not vote for the party.
