Ignore politicians who talk lies about their opponents

Loggu (U/W), Nov. 10, GNA- Vice President Aliu Mahama on Tuesday advised the electorate to ignore politicians who preach lies about their political opponents.

Such people he said were not seeking the welfare of the people but rather fomenting troubles that could pull the country back. Vice President Mahama said this at Loggu in the Wa East District as part of this five-day tour commission development projects in the Upper West Region.

The Vice President said he had information that some political opponents were going about discrediting the government and telling the electorate not to vote for the NPP.

He said the only way to remove an elected government was through the ballot box. He therefore called on the electorate to return NPP into power to complete the development projects it had initiated. "We have stayed in opposition for over 30 years and for some people to stay for only four years, for them to go about telling lies about innocent people cannot help our development process".

"Let me tell them that they need to go back and queue until power returns to them but for now, they should forget it".

The Vice President said the ECOWAS countries after having chalked successes in peace keeping would soon be using a common currency to cement their union.

He cautioned Ghanaians against violence and all kinds of intimidations during and after the general elections.

Vice President Mahama who visited Dorimon, Wechian, Lassia Tuolo and Ga in the Wa West District promised them good roads, electricity, telephones and small-scale dams for farming purposes.

He also visited Boli and Sing in the Wa Central where he called on various groups to avoid the system of "skirt and blouse" by voting for President J A Kufuor and also vote for any non-NPP candidate. At Lassia Tuolu, the Vice President promised to local Secondary School a bus, electricity and expansion of infrastructure at the school. He also charged the Department of Feeder Roads to construct good access roads to the school.

Mr Andrews Kpan, Headmaster of the school commended the Vice President for the concern shown to the school. 10 Nov 04
