The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has arrested 88 illegal power connectors in the Eastern Region.

The suspects include operators of drinking bars, hair dressing salons, barbering shops, restaurants and printing press.

In a statement issued by the ECG and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Koforidua, the Regional Public Relations Officer, Ms Mary Eshun-Oppong, said the programme was launched by the ECG Management to clamp down on all illegal power connection activities.

She said the exercise was conducted on customers to ascertain the nature of electricity connection and the state of electricity metres adding that the inspection was done every Friday evening to Sunday evening.

Ms Eshun-Oppong cautioned the public to desist from illegal connections since it could lead to low voltages, damage electrical appliance and fire out breaks.

She said the company would not spare anybody engaged in illegal connection and urged the public to report suspected persons engaged in the act to the ECG.
