The Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Amdani, has appealed to members of the Christian Health Association of Ghana, to rescind their decision not to accept National Health Insurance Schemes (NHIS) cards on humanitarian grounds so that the poor on the NHIS could receive health care.

He also appealed to the government and management of the NHIS to make frantic efforts to settle all outstanding claims due the members of CHAG. Alhaji Amdani made the appeal at prayers to mark Eid-ul-Fitr at Koforidua to make the end of Ramadan.

CHAG members have refused to treat patients on the NHIS if they are not ready to pay for the services because of the failure of the NHIS secretariat to honour the many claims of health institutions under the CHAG.

He appealed to the government to extend scholarships to the youth of the Zongo communities to enable them to improve upon their education to make better contribution to the country’s democracy.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, said the government in collaboration with the Brazilian government, under the urban renewable project, had initiate moves to improve social amenities in Zongos across the country.

He said the government was also liaising with the Council of Muslim Chiefs to come up with skills training programmes for the youth in the Zongos.
