Accra, April 22, GNA - The Controller and Accountant-General's Department has started implementing the new approved salary levels. This follows last year's negotiations between the Government and the Consultative Forum comprising the Civil Servants Association of Ghana, Ghana National Association of Teachers, Judicial Service Association, Ghana and the Registered Nurses Association on salary adjustment for 2004, which was approved by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
"The implementation takes account of the effective date of March 1, 2004 and an increase in the relativity ratio to three per cent," a statement from the Finance Ministry signed by Government Spokesman on Finance and Economy, Nana Ohene-Ntow said on Friday.
It said the reversion to the 2004 negotiated salary levels was applicable to all government agencies and departments operating with salaries governed by the Ghana Universal Salary Structure.
"Although there have been some delays in the implementation, the Ministry wishes to assure beneficiaries of the new arrangement that implementation has finally commenced and that all arrears involved shall be duly paid as agreed between the Forum, the Accountant General's Department and the Ministry.
"The Ministry notes that the Forum had undertaken to inform its members regarding the one-week delay in the payment of the April salaries due to the procedures involved in the re-reversion to the 2004 negotiated salaries," the statement said.
It said the Accountant-General's Department had been tasked to ensure that there were no further delays and that payment of the negotiated salaries would be effected by the end of April. 22 April 05
