Include Constitutional Game in school curricula - NCCE

Nkroful (W/R), Feb 5, GNA - The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES), have been urged to include the Constitutional Game in the school curricular.

This would encourage the youth who are the future leaders of the country to study the constitution to enable them to live up to their civic responsibilities.

Mr. Harry Quarshie, a research officer of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) made the appeal at the close of the first ever Nzema East District Zonal Constitutional Games organised by the Commission for some schools on Friday.

They included the Nkroful Agricultural Secondary School, Nsein Secondary School, Esiama Secondary Technical School and Bonzo Kaku Secondary School.

The Nkroful Agric. Sec. School who emerged winners received copies of the Constitutional Games and Certificates of Participation.

Mr. Quarshie who supervised the competition said the game could greatly improve constitutional awareness among students who could be used as constitutional educators in their communities.

He said lack of a firm grasp of the constitution among the youth, could spell doom for the country and suggested that families, churches and other groups should obtain copies to help improve the lives of their members.

Mr. Frank Stephens the District Director of the NCCE said the game was meant to educate the youth on the value of the constitution and reasons why all should protect it.

He said the game could be used as part of the entertainment period of schools while at the same time helping to improve the understanding of constitutional issues to create "a new breed of uncompromising constitutional defenders".

Participating schools received copies of the game and certificates. 05 Feb 05
