Professor Edwin Nii Korley, Member of the Association of Evangelical Gospel Assemblies (AEGA), at the weekend decried the increasing spate of divorce worldwide, describing it as “embarrassing to the ministry of God”.
He said last year 77 ministers of God in the US abandoned their work due to broken marriages, whilst 70, 000 marriages ended on rocks in Ghana.
Prof Korley, who was speaking at the 2014 National Conference of AEGA in Accra on the theme: “The Minister and Family,” said many marriages are collapsing because they were built on weak foundation of dreams.
He said marriage dreams should be associated with good planning, adding: “Marriages built on mere dreams are risky…No marriage is a tea party.”
He said much is expected of marriage couples to make their dreams come to pass.
Prof Korley, who spoke on the topic: “Laying a solid foundation for Ministry and Marriage,” said the biblical admonishment of “for better or for worse” means that marriage is not all that rosy.
He said trials and challenges would come, but marriage couples much learn to hold each other as partners and go before the Lord for the best times ahead.
Prof Korley asked marriage couples to live up to their marriage vows by staying faithful to each other “and so if you have fornicated against your partner, repent now because God will judge you according to the vows you made”.
He told the five newly ordained pastors that being called by God entails responsibilities and should therefore strive to lead lives worthy of emulation.
Bishop Dr Samuel Sagoe-Nkansah, Vice Territorial Bishop Executive Secretary of AEGA, led the ordination candidates to take the ministerial vow of consecration.
He said AEGA would hold an All Africa Summit in 2015 in a country to be decided later whilst the AEGA Regional Conference would be hosted by Greater Accra Region on March 25, 2015.
In a speech read on his behalf, Archbishop Charles E. Henderson, International Director of AEGA Foreign Division, congratulated the ordained pastors and wished them well as members of the global association with headquarters in the US.
Pastor Jehu-Appiah, General Overseer of The Wordforce Ministry, told Ghana News Agency that the ordination was significant to him because he had his first ordination as Minister of the Gospel 10 years ago.
“The intensive period of training with AEGA had sharpened by knowledge about the bible and will deeply enhance my ministry and I am grateful to God,” he said.
AEGA was organized and chartered in 1976 under the name “Christian Ministries, a local ministerial fellowship in Monroe, Louisiana by Bishop Dr Henry Harbuck.
Currently, its ministerial credential and church-ministry division has members throughout the US and Canada. With thousands of men and women of God around the world, the fellowship now has membership in more than 60 countries around the world.
AEGA projects includes church planting, developing bible schools, feeding the poor, sponsoring needy children and organizing an annual Christmas box delivery and a dynamic medical mission and outreach.
It helps ministries in the area of ordination and ministerial credentials, ministerial networking, ministerial fellowship, ministerial mentoring, training and re-training and ministerial covering.
