Independence Day Anniversary celebration at Jasikan

Jasikan (V/R), March 7, GNA - A spectacular gymnastic and cultural displays by the E. P Primary School pupils of Okadjakrom in the Jasikan district marked the Independence Day anniversary celebration in Jasikan on Thursday. In all, two contingents each from 42 private and public Schools, in addition to 16 others from voluntary organizations and the Police, took part in the match past with music provided by the Saint Peter Clever band. At Kpando, a total of 3,000 school children, including four cadet corps from Kpando Senior High, Bishop Herman, Kpando Secondary/Technical and Gayibor Senior High Schools commemorated the Day at the KPANTEC Park with music provided by Teres band. Mr Solomon Kwame Donkor and Mr Pius Adanuty, District Chief Executives of Jasikan and Kpando, respectively, took the national salute and read the President's address.

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), March 7, GNA - Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah (Rtd), Municipal Chief Executive for Dormaa, has said the government's commitment to ensuring peaceful and credible elections must be supported by Ghanaians, including all political parties. He said it is also important to recognise the crucial role of the Electoral Commission in establishing public confidence in the electoral process. "Ghana is not ready to witness any flawed electoral processes that have triggered chaos and anarchy in many peaceful, prosperous and beautiful countries." Squadron Leader Asamoah was addressing 1,500 pupils drawn from 27 basic schools and members of seven voluntary organisations who took part in a parade to commemorate the 51st Independence anniversary at Dormaa Ahenkro. The Municipal Chief Executive called on the Electoral Commission to referee the electoral proceedings, including registration, voting, vote counting and declaration of election results with impartiality, neutrality, honesty and transparency, for the contesting parties and the electorate to accept the results with pride. "This way, Ghana's growing democracy would receive the necessary boost to assume its rightful position among the comity of nations", he said. Barima Oppong Yaw Boabasa Ababio, Gyaasehene of Dormaa Traditional Council, appealed to Ghanaians to nurture the culture of unity in diversity while placing the over-all interest of the country above parochial ambitions.

He appealed to various political parties and independent candidates to let the spirit of unity and peace guide them in their campaign messages. The Gyaasehene entreated the media, particularly radio stations, to guard against comments that have the potential to inflame passions. Barima Oppong called for collaboration between the security agencies and traditional authorities to ensure peace during the elections. "Posterity will not spare us if by our insensitivity, the relative peace the country is enjoying is derailed," the chief cautioned. More CK/KK
