Kumasi Oct.6 GNA- Mr. Owusu Ankomah, an Independent Presidential aspirant, has called for a review of the constitutional provision that required candidates seeking to contest as President, to be nominated by at least two registered voters in each district.
Article 63 clause 1(b) of the Constitution states that a person shall not be a candidate in a presidential election unless he is nominated for election as president by a document, which is signed by not less that two persons who are registered voters resident in the area of authority of each district assembly.
Mr. Ankomah who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi said the requirement was a barrier to people who wish to lead the country as independent candidates.
He said the independent candidates do not have well organised structures on the ground and to traverse the length and breadth of the country to get people to sign their nomination forms was very frustrating.
