Indian High Commissioner lauds Ghana's democratic process

Accra, May 1, GNA - The India High Commissioner to Ghana, Madam Ruchid Ghanashyam said on Friday Ghana's peaceful elections, transition and growth in democracy was a shining example to Africa and the rest of the world. This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces in Accra, signed by Lieutenant M. A. Larbi for the Director.

Madam Ghanashyam was speaking during a courtesy call on the Defence Minister, Lt General Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd) at his office at the Burma Camp.

She said it was a lot easier working in Ghana due to the relative peace and congenial atmosphere and hoped other neighbouring countries would emulate Ghana. Madam Ghanashyam expressed satisfaction at the cordial relations that had existed between Ghana and India dating from the days of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and called for the further enhancement of "South-South Co-operation".

General Smith thanked the Indian government for the support provided to Ghana in all sectors especially in the areas of agriculture, engineering and defence.

He commended the Indian Armed Forces for their professionalism and called for further military co-operation in areas of engineering, logistics and peace.
