Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, a Flagbearer Aspirant of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) on Thursday appealed to government to capture the informal sector in the planned stimulus package for the business community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I believe the reduction of transport fares, subsidy for farming materials, utilities and other essential areas, would ease the burden of the informal sector,” the PNC member said.

A statement signed by Mr. Awingobit and copied to the Ghana News Agency, urged the government to ensure the effective distribution of hand sanitizers and personal protective equipment to members of the informal sector.

The statement also called on government to equip the various CHIP compounds in the rural areas, which would be the first place of call, in case of emergencies in their areas of operation.

It also said government should strengthen state institutions such as the Information Services Department and the National Commission for Civic Education financially, to intensify public education on the coronavirus in the rural areas.
