Innova DDB Ghana, an advertising agency, has donated food items and a cheque for an unspecified amount of money to Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The items include bags of rice, medical supplies, sugar, soap and cooking oil, toiletries and a 2,000 litre tank.

Ms Olivia Cudjoe, Account Group Head Innova DDB Ghana, said the donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and a show of commitment to support mental health delivery.

The donation is also part of the company’s annual commitment to support the less fortunate within various circles.

“Innova DDB Ghana is a company that believes in giving back to the society and supporting the less fortunate,” she said.

Ms Cudjoe said the company is of the view that mental health conditions are not for the less privileged, misfits or under-achievers but every other person stands the risk of being a victim.

Receiving the items, Principal Nursing Officer at the Hospital, Beatrice Nyarko commended the management and staff of Innova DDB for the donation.

She called on other corporate institutions to emulate Innova’s example, especially in the area of volunteerism.

Dr Nsiah Anyetei, Deputy Director Nursing, said there are currently 500 inmates in the hospital after the decongestion exercise to reunite treated patients with families.

He said plans are underway to reduce the number further to 200 by 2015 to enable the hospital provide effective care to inmates.

After the presentation, the management and staff of Innova DDB Ghana were schooled on mental health and later taken on a facility tour to know the realities on the ground.

Last year Innova DDB Ghana as part of its corporate social responsibility decided to focus on mental health care development in the country.

The first beneficiary of company’s campaign was the Chosen Generation Rehabilitation Centre in Accra last year.

Innova DDB Ghana is a giant in advertising and marketing communications within the country’s advertising industry.

The company is the Ghana affiliate of DDB Worldwide Communication Group. DDB Worldwide operates in more than 200 offices in more than 90 countries and is the most awarded communications Group in the world.
