Institute of Management Studies gets New Campus

Accra, May 20, GNA - A 750-million-cedi block to serve as the New Campus for the Institute of Management Studies (IMS) has been dedicated at an impressive ceremony in Accra.

The Reverend Immanuel Enoch Agbozo, Leader and Founder of the Ghana Evangelical Society, who cut the tape to dedicate the building, reminded Ghanaians of the need to re-dedicate their lives to God. Rev Agbozo further reminded Ghanaians that they would labour in vain, if God did not shower His blessings on them.

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians not to rely on their own perceived strength and powers, but to put their whole trust in God and pray for His protection and guidance.

Rev Agbozo commended Dr Sazrar Opata, Director and Proprietor of IMS for his selfless devotion to duty, steadfastness, courage, vision and foresight, even when the going became tough. He urged the director to remain resolute, and not to be cpmplacent, now that he had realised his dream of acquiring a new site for the institute.

Dr Opata recounted the history of the school, and said it was established in 1974 with an initial student population of 19 on its Kumasi Campus.

He said with the influx of students from the southern sector of the country, it became expedient to set up the Accra Campus in 1985, adding that the current student population stood at 352, and more than 5,000 past students.

The Director announced that with the acquisition of the new site, the Institute was going to run on-line degree programmes, whereby matured students would be offered admission to avail themselves of the many opportunities to upgrade their education. Mr Christus Andoh Mensah, Assistant Registrar of the school, said plans were afoot to enrol Polytechnic Higher National Degree Students next academic year, to do post-graduate diploma in Marketing and Purchasing and Supply.

Mr Mensah hoped the prospective students would then have the chance to pursue their Masters' programme in Marketing or Logistics or Purchasing Chain Management.

Mr Joseph Maafo Budu, Registrar of the Akrofi-Christaller Memorial Centre for Mission Research and Applied Technology, who chaired the function, urged Ghanaians to remain united in their resolve to move the nation onto the pedestal of prosperity. 20 May 04
