Accra, Sept.19, GNA - The Network of Mutual Health Organization OF Ghana (GNeMHO) on Monday called on the National Health Insurance Council (NHIC) to increase logistics support to schemes to enable members operate effectively.

In a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of a three-day Managers conference on efficient and effective performance in Accra at the weekend, the Network said the logistics were needed now that most of them were at picture taking and registration stages. The workshop covered the Southern zone comprising the Volta, Greater Accra, Central and the Western Regions.

The communiqu=E9 asked the Council to hasten the release of subsidies for children under 18 years, the 70 years plus and the indigents as well as contributions for the formal sector, SSNIT contributors and SSNIT pensioners to enable the scheme take off successfully while establishing a system for prompt and timely release of the funds in future.

It further asked the Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to recognise the development of the Mutual Health Organisations (MHOs) as a poverty reduction strategy and continued to provide them with the needed support.

The communiqu=E9 said providers should strengthen their quality assurance systems to guarantee quality care for the MHO members and provide the services in the most ethical and professional manner to minimise fraud and abuse.

Participants had pledged to evolve strategies for the harmonization of implementing polices and to further explore measures for efficient and effective performance of the health schemes. "We pledge our continued support to Government's effort at bringing affordable and quality health care to the doorsteps of people in Ghana, that we pledge our commitment to serve our people and work towards the success of the scheme as entrusted to us".
