Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has advised university graduates to integrate academic excellence with moral uprightness to make them useful to society.

He said their education was to equip them with the skills that would enable them to make significant contribution towards the nation’s socio-economic transformation.

“Our aim is to help you to be independent, to be able to adopt positive attitude to life, be conscious of the value of time and be sincere to yourselves and society.”

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw was speaking at a matriculation ceremony to admit new students to pursue various degree and diploma courses under the sandwich programme of the university.

A total of 1,966 applicants were admitted to pursue diploma in education programmes, with another 218 admitted to pursue Master of Technology (M-TECH) in Construction, Wood, Catering and Hospitality, Mechanical, Fashion and Textiles, Electrical and Electronics as well as Master of Arts (MA) in Educational Leadership.

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw reminded the new students of being admitted into an institution that had a mission of nurturing teaching and administrative competencies at the various levels of the educational system.

They should, therefore, subject themselves to the training the university intended to provide to enable them to leave the university transformed and functional to themselves and society.

He advised them to take their studies seriously and make judicious use of the internet facilities there to enhance their research and update their knowledge.
