Interior minister reviews curfew hours at Bawku from 6pm to 6am

The Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has imposed a curfew on the movement of motorbikes, tricycles, ‘aboboyaa’, and the like for both men and women at Binduri and its environs in the Upper East Region.

The minister said any person found riding motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ or goes contrary to the ban will be arrested and prosecuted.

Muntaka said this in a statement on Sunday, April 13, 2025, after reviewing the curfew hours imposed on Binduri from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am with immediate effect.

This is part of efforts by the government to maintain peace and security in the area.

He acted on an advice by the Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, the statement added.

“Government urges chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Binduri Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, men wearing smocks, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted," the statement said.

It continued to stated that; “Additionally, the movement of motorbikes, tricycles, ‘aboboyaa’, and the like are banned for both men and women. Any person found riding motorbikes, tricycles,and ‘aboboyaa’ will be arrested and prosecuted," the statement said.

This statement was issued after a deadly gun attack at Binduri resulted in the death of a man.

The incident occurred near Atuba, a suburb of Binduri Central.

While authorities confirmed receiving information about the attack, they were unable to provide further details at this time.

Earlier, the curfew was placed from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am on Monday, March 17, 2025, following an Executive Instrument issued by Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka.
