Internal conflict won’t affect NPP in 2016 - Gabby

Former Director of the pro-opposition policy think tank, Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has stated that the internal problems that have bedeviled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may not have any impact on its fortunes in the 2016 elections.

According to him, the problems may look huge in the eyes of the public and the media but do not transcend to the grounds, where real campaigning is done.

“There are problems everywhere, there are problems in the NDC, NPP and several other places but what the NPP's candidate has managed to do is to be able to convince all the past executives, DCEs, ministers and all of them. And they have all promised their commitment to the course.

“I will admit that they may be problems at the top, and they are worrying, but that does not necessarily mean that is going to reflect in the outcome of the elections. The 2016 election is going to be on the track record of the John Mahama administration and not what is perhaps happening in the NPP,” the former editor of the New Statesman newspaper told host Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Tuesday.

He said the NPP had similar challenges in the past but still went ahead to win the 2000 elections with the then-candidate John Kufuor.

The Elephant family is in conflict with itself as its general secretary Kwabena Agyepong, took to the media Monday to vent his spleen on its flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and some party executives, alleging they are working against him.

He revealed he was unaware of the ‘Rise and Build’ tour and only got to know of it on the internet.

Akufo-Addo, in response, has issued a stern warning to all members of the party to desist from discussing internal matters on the media landscape, adding such behaviour will affect the fortunes of the party in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
