Several local and international publishers are taking part in the third Ghana International Book Fair 2000 which opened at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra early this week.

Under the theme 'A reading child An Enlightened Adult' this fair seeks to bring the child closer to books, and also help them to develop their knowledge by getting access to the book.

The fair begun on November 11, and will end on the 19.

This year's fair is expected to be an improvement over the two previous fairs and also generate the much needed expectation from exhibitors and visitors who will patronize the fair. Participation from both local and international book publishers, distributors and suppliers, give the fair a true international dimension.

These include Unimax Macmillan who are holding Reading Clinics in conjunction with the Ghana Education Service, Readwide, whose stand is very interactive, and EPP Books.

The books on display range from text books in every category of academic endeavor to novels. During the fair exhibitors are expected to launch new books and initiatives as well as organize various seminars and workshops.

At the opening ceremony prizes were awarded to deserving students who participated in a Writers' Contest organized before the commencement of the fair
