International Service, a UK based charity and development organization which empowers women, children and young people to use their rights has launched an Alumni Network in Ghana.

The launch which took place at the Tamale Sports stadium saw the presence of some 50 past volunteers of the service.

The International Service Ghana currently operates in the Northern and Upper East regions of Ghana with projects focusing on the inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas of society, encouraging young people to stay in education, and building the livelihoods of local community members.

Chief Executive Officer of the service in UK, Jo Baker who was in Ghana for the launch encourage members of the network to work hard and push to make an impact in society.

The ICS is a voluntary scheme funded by the UK Government and run by a consortium of eight (8) UK charities working in developing countries. Through ICS, young people from both Ghana and the UK are provided with the opportunity to work together alongside local development organisations to make a difference in some of the world’s most marginalised communities, whilst gaining transferable skills and invaluable experience by working cross-culturally.

To ensure the active engagement of members of the Alumni Network across Ghana, and to support the work of the Alumni Board, a group of dedicated ICS return volunteers will act as Alumni Ambassadors across the 10 regions of Ghana. They are to be spread across 5 areas/zones that the country is divided into (Upper Zone, Northern Zone, Central, Western and Eastern Zones) with 2 ambassadors per zone.

ICS Ghana Alumni seeks to create an engaged, empowered and skilled network of International Service Ghana ICS Alumni, who, as young people, seek to become active citizens in their communities and inspire and contribute to global change, enriching their lives and the lives of others.
