Interpol sends US-based accountant for trial in Ghana

Frank Asirifi Bempong, a former Accounts and Finance Manager of Ghana International School (GIS) appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, charged with stealing.

Bempong who left the country after the theft of 300,522.24 dollars and 3,640.94 pounds between 1996 and 2000 was arrested by Interpol in Washington.

The accused was remanded to prison custody to allow the Police to continue with investigations. He is to reappear on August 20.

Mrs Rebecca Adjalo, a State Attorney and the Prosecutor, said the accused, who was the Accounts and Finance Manager of GIS between 1996 and 2000, dishonestly appropriated the amounts belonging to the school and fled to the US.

She said Interpol was alerted and the accused was arrested and brought back to Ghana on August 2.
