Inusah Fuseini grades Akufo-Addo’s one-year government B+

Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has scored President Akufo-Addo high marks for his performance since he assumed office in January 7, 2017.

The MP who also doubles as the Ranking Member on the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee in Parliament gave the President B+ for his efforts in handling the economy and also finding ways to tackle corruption.

The legislator said he would have given President Akufo-Addo C- for his one-year government but changed his mind upon hearing the news of the appointment of Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.

He described the nomination of Martin Amidu as “refreshing news” indicating that Mr. Amidu has the competence and integrity to occupy the Special Prosecutor’s office and must be approved by Parliament without delays.

The appointment of ‘Citizen Vigilante’, Mr. Amidu as a Special Prosecutor came as a surprise to Ghanaians as many thought Lawyer Akoto Ampaw would have been chosen by the President.

Background

Martin Amidu, a known member of the National Democratic Congress and a former Attorney General was on Thursday, January 11 named by the President as the Special Prosecutor. He is expected to be vetted and approved by Parliament in the coming days.

Mr Amidu graduated from the University of Ghana in 1976 with an LLB (Hons) and the Ghana Law School in 1978 with a Barrister/Solicitor at Law (BL) degree. He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Conflict Resolution from the Antioch University, Ohio, USA. The former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice joined the NDC in 1992.

He was the party’s vice-presidential candidate in the December 2000 presidential elections which the NDC presidential candidate, the late Professor J.E.A Mills, lost to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) John Agyekum Kufuor.
