Assemblyman for the Maame Krobo East Assembly, Jacob Zineyele has called on parents, particularly those in the Afram Plains area to invest in the education of their children so as to harness their potentials and benefit fully as parents.
Mr. Zineyele said this in a keynote address read at the first anniversary of the Maame Krobo Senior High School in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region.
He noted that the greatest way to predict the future is to venture into inventions.
He called on the students to work towards becoming inventors and not join the fray of the already teaming job seeking youth.
Touching on the challenges students face in that part of the country, Hon. Zineyele said most students go to school without food. This he attributed to the economic conditions of the people.
He bemoaned lateness, absenteeism and the over burdening of students with household chores as some of phenomena that affects teaching and learning. He however hinted on the plans of the assembly to convert the school into a boarding school.
He commended the headmaster of the school for his active enrollment drive for the school and enjoined students to work hard to secure their future by paying attention to their books.
The headmaster of the school Mr. Augustine Ametefe, expressed his appreciation to former president John Dramani Mahama for putting up the school. As well as president Nana Addo for continuing the project left behind by his predecessor.
For his part, SRC President, Samuel Mmabua in his address appealed to authorities to provide a bus for the school. He appealed to the district director of education to post teachers to the school because they have no teachers for some subjects.
He also appealed for support for needy students who come to school on empty stomach. He praised the effort of the staff and students. He called on his college students to be the change they wish to see in the school.
The school which offers four programs, General Arts, General Science, Agricultural Science and Business have 8 permanent teachers with 12 volunteers including Rev. Fr. Stephen Kofi Sakpaku who teaches history and Christian Religious Studies (CRS) as well as some national service personnel.
The first badge of five students were admitted in 2016/2017 academic year.
Currently, the school a total of 255 students made up of 127 males and 128 females, with 34(19 males and 15 females) being beneficiaries of the Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP)
The anniversary was on the theme " A year of Maame Krobo SHS; successes and challenges, a day school experience" and was attended by the Odikro of Maame Krobo Nana Agyakum, Hon. Benjamin Donkor Assembly man for the area, Mr. Nana Adusei, Mr. Kwame Asare, Mr. Naado Kofi Israel, Mr. Samuel Dotse, PTA Chairman, parents and a host of dignitaries within the district.
