Investigations began on alleged attempted kidnap of journalist

Ho, Dec 5, GNA - Mr Kofi Duku Arthur, Volta Regional Police Commander, on Saturday said investigations had began to unravel the mystery surrounding the alleged attempted kidnap and attack by an unidentified assailants on Ms Efua Jansi Asamoah, the Volta Regional Correspondent of Joy Fm.

He, however, pleaded with media establishments and other stakeholders to desist from politicising the incident since such a move could thwart the investigative machinery being employed by the Police.

Mr Arthur, who was briefing the Ghana News Agency in Ho in the aftermath of an alleged attack on the reporter last Friday in Ho, said the victim was recuperating at the Regional Hospital.

He said from all indications, Ms Asamoah was not sure of who was responsible for the alleged attack, what prompted it and the motive behind it but she suspected some irate political fanatics who might be peeved about her reportage might be behind the attempt.

The Regional Commander said the Police who were denied access to the victim on Friday, however, met her on Saturday at the Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Arthur said the victim alleged that she was thrown out of a moving car by her assailants near the former State Fishing area, off the Ho-Accra road.

He said according to Ms. Asamoah there were three other occupants of the cab, who she believed, were not Ewe speaking people.

Mr Arthur said the Police would recall from Mr Asigbey, the General Manager of JOY FM, who was in Ho at the time, for the verbal exchanges which the victim managed to audio-tape as well as the syringe her attackers used to give her a jab to assist in investigations.

Giving a background to the incident, Mr Arthur said about 1830 hours on Friday, Ms Asamoah reported that she was being trailed by a car but unfortunately failed to provide the particulars of the said vehicle and advised her to remain indoors.
