THE Iranian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Majid Bismark, has commended the government for maintaining and improving upon the peaceful co-existence of a multiplicity of religious beliefs and practices in the country.

This, he noted, has facilitated the freedom of worship of Muslims and people of other religious faiths in the country, and thus contributed to enhancing the respect for human rights of the people and the sustenance of the country’s democratic dispensation.

The Iranian Ambassador gave the commendation in an address to Muslims at Ofoase, during a tour of the Eastern Region. It formed part of activities marking the birthday of Imam Ali, a revered Islamic leader.

Mr Bismark called on Muslims to work hard and exhibit honesty in whatever sphere of endeavour they find themselves so that they could improve themselves, their families, communities and the nation as a whole.

He also urged them to be law abiding and endeavour to respect the beliefs, feelings and sensibilities of others to help guarantee the peace and stability the nation is enjoying.

The Iranian Ambassador also called on Muslims to take serious interest in education and the acquisition of knowledge which, he noted, were bounding duties on Muslims.

“In this regard, I urge Muslims to invest generously in the education of their children or wards, as this would also help make Muslims more productive in society, as well as help shape society along morally sound principles,” he stressed.

The Cultural Counsellor at the embassy, Dr Mohammed Hatani, paid tribute to Imam Ali for his uncompromising pursuit of the truth and honesty and urged Muslims to emulate these sterling qualities to help move their respective societies forward.

He called on Muslims to instil sound moral and religious principles in their children so that they could grow into more disciplined and duty-conscious leaders of the nation in the future.

He also commended the current cordial relations between the consulate and the people of Ofoase and pledged to work to further improve them for the mutual benefit of both sides.

The Birim North District Chief Executive, Mr V. B. Owusu Ahinkorah, commended the embassy for the interaction and pledged the commitment of the assembly and the NPP government to work actively with Muslims to help move the nation forward.
