Irate crowd bays for Mahama killers’ blood in court

Scores of people have besieged the Accra Courts Complex in anger, demanding that authorities allow them mete punishment to some 34 suspects who were put before a Circuit Court in relation to the murder of army Captain Maxwell A. Mahama.

The irate crowd would not budge and tried to break through security to grab the suspects and beat them up.

This was before the 34 suspects charged with the murder were remanded in police custody to reappear on June 21.

The suspects who were put before court on Monday June 5 were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and committing murder.

Prosecutor George Amegah told the court that the prosecution would need more time to complete investigations. The court, presided over by Justice Ebenezer Kweku Ansah, therefore adjourned the case to June 21.

Captain Mahama was lynched by irate youth of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region on Monday May 29 on suspicion that he was an armed robber, after a trader spotted a gun on him.

Forty-two suspects are being held in police custody in relation to the case as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the family has announced that the deceased will be buried on Friday, June 9.
