The Prime Minister of Ireland, Micheál Martin, has condemned the missile strike on a base of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon that left two Ghanaian peacekeepers injured.

The camp hosting Ghanaian peacekeepers serving under UNIFIL in southern Lebanon reportedly came under attack amid the escalating war in the region.

According to reports, the base was targeted twice during clashes involving Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

In a statement released on March 6, Martin described the attack as reckless and expressed concern over the safety of UN personnel serving in the region.

“I strongly condemn the reckless strike on a UNIFIL base in southern Lebanon that has left a number of Ghanaian peacekeepers seriously injured,” he stated.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of international peacekeepers stationed in southern Lebanon as clashes continue to escalate along the Israel-Lebanon border.

Meanwhile, the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has also condemned the attack and called for a full, immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which left two Ghanaian soldiers seriously injured.

In a statement issued on March 7, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the government had written to the António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, demanding a full investigation into the incident involving Ghanaian troops deployed under UNIFIL.
