Is Ghana a focused country? – Quashigah quizzes

Year after year, successive governments turn to abandon developmental projects left behind by their predecessors. It is against this background that the Member of Parliament for Keta, Richard Quashigah has asked if those steering the affairs of the nation have a vision for the country.

The lawmaker in a video recording said “I ask, are we in a nation where those values we cherish and hold dear appear not defined?"

Citing some instances to buttress his claim, he explained that for the past 27 years that Ghana is noted as a democratic country, governments have adopted various blueprints towards defining development and growth it is about time government took a critical look at the country for it to be productive and prosperous.

According to him, the fact that the constitution gives every president to within two years after assuming office present to parliament a coordinated programme of economic-social development policies does not mean they have to abandon previous projects to work on theirs.

“In 1995, we have vision 2020 blueprint which was never used after its framers were out of power in January 2001 and was replaced by the ghana poverty reduction strategy 1 and 2. The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) during the Mills, Mahama government have been working on a 40-year development plan intended to take effect from 1028 to 2057 but that was abandoned in 2017”.

In furtherance of his claim, he said “then came the government 2017, 2024 national development blueprints titled an agenda, jobs, creating prosperity and equal opportunity for all which president Nana Akufo-Addo…is fully aligned with the united nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals. Under the government, the NDPC is working on a new long term framework, ghana at 100 development plan again at the cost of the taxpayer”.
