Accra, July 10, GNA - Professor Dr. Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of CPP on Saturday said it would be an act of indiscipline and a breach of the Party's Constitution for members to vote for CPP's parliamentary candidates but to fail to do so for the Presidential aspirant.

"If we are going to vote for our constituency candidates to win seats in Parliament then we owe it a great responsibility to do likewise for the Party's Presidential Candidate. This is in fulfilment of the decision we took at the last National Delegates' Congress," he said. Prof Dr. Dowuona said this when Mr Anthony Mensah, a 54 year-old man, was declared unopposed as the CPP's Parliamentary candidate for the Okai Koi South Constituency for the forthcoming Election 2004. All five representatives of the Party's branches in the Constituency unanimously confirmed Mr Mensah as the obvious candidate to win on the ticket of the CPP.

Prof. Dr. Dowuona told the delegates not to waiver about the difficulties the party was facing by allowing themselves to be deceived by people, but rather to stand united and poised for the task ahead. "If anybody tells you that the CPP should wait for the 2008 elections, tell the person that the future is uncertain for those who are alive today and all that you know is that the time for the party to take the mantle of government is now," he urged the Delegates. Prof Dr Dowuona said the CPP was the only Party that held the key to prudent and strategic economic and social policies that could save the Ghanaian economy from further deterioration.

Mr Mensah called for a united CPP with great determination and focus saying: "This is the only way we can win power and return this country into the proper governance shown to us by Osagyefo Dr Nkrumah ... our leader."

He said the picture today in the country was clear for everyone to see that the current New Patriotic Party Government and the previous ones professed and spoke of development but did not practise it.

"It is now time for Ghanaians to know that the CPP is and has remained the only true Party that understands the aspiration of the people and had the capabilities to turn the economy around," he said.
