A Police Officer named Sgt. Ebenezer Asiedu reportedly beat up some journalists of the Ghanaian Times last week Thursday.

Three journalists who were from a day's assignment were not spared but beaten up mercilessly by the Police Officer and nine other officers at Kinbu in Accra Central, for daring to confront Sgt. Asiedu for flouting road traffic regulations.

Sgt. Ebenezer Asiedu is said to have also committed a traffic offence when he recklessly rode his unregistered motorbike to hit a vehicle belonging to the Ghanaian Times.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", a member of the Communications Team of the opposition party, Bernard Anim Piesie, slammed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu claiming he has failed to be on top of the nation's security.

Condemning the actions of the Police Officers for assaulting the journalists, Anim Piesie asked the IGP and the law enforcers in the country to wake up from the slumber and ensure they safeguard the people they are mandated to protect.

“Is the IGP asleep? The nation’s security is in jeopardy…If a civilian can take the laws into his own hands and do things to contravene the law, then it means the society is sick. The law enforcers must wake up!”, he blurted out.

Anim Piesie called on the hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service to mete out punishment to the offending Officers to serve as a deterrent to others.
