The operations of the Power Distribution Services (PDS) were suspended by government with immediate effect following the discovery of "fundamental and material breaches of PDS’ obligation in the provision of Payment Securities (Demand Guarantees).”

Few days later, a statement jointly signed by the Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah and the Chief Executive Officer of PDS, Rev. Ing William Hutton-Mensah indicated an agreement between the two companies.

Per the modalities of the agreement, PDS whose operations have been suspended is to carry out “all activities related to electricity retail sale.”

“In light of the above, all payments and other related activities shall continue to take place at PDS Regional and District offices, PDS existing Customer Service Centres, PDS licensed vending stations, PDS operated Cash Points and banks,” the statement said.

However, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' questioned why the government will give a directive and another body will issue something different.

"Is PDS suspended or not? . . . those who issued the statement and the President who gave the directive; who is really in charge and whose directive are we listening to? Is the President in charge or his powers have been given to someone else? Is it that the President is not being respected or he is in agreement with the joint statement?" Kwesi Pratt Jnr. queried.
