Dome-Kwabenya constituency, noted as one of the constituencies that set the agenda for Ghana’s historic election petition is boiling, ahead of the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Parliamentary primaries in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency have been ever competitive and keenly contested. The previous primaries saw the son of an NPP firebrand, Prof. Mike Oquaye losing narrowly to the incumbent Sarah Adwoa Safo.

However the second term of the incumbent MP, who looks comfortable from the outside is under serious threat, as former constituency Organizer and candidate for Regional Youth Organizer, Isaac Amofa has decided to contest against his very close ally. What has sparked fear and panic within the camp of the incumbent MP is that Isaac Amofa played an instrumental role in the MP’s election.

Isaac Amofa has been a loyalist to the NPP since 1992. In his University days, Amofa was an active member of TESCON and was very influential in the first term election of Hon Frema Osei Opare, former MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon. As a constituency Organizer, he distinguished himself as grass root mobilizer and great mediator within the constituency.

Isaac Amofa’s camp are confident of victory ahead of June. Spokesperson to Isaac Amofa, Nana Kwapong said, “Dome-Kwabenya deserves someone who has the constituency at heart, someone who can maximize our votes in the general election”. “We are highly confident about victory in the upcoming primaries, Amofa is committed to executing a clean campaign and we believe delegates in Dome-Kwabenya will give us a chance”, he added.

Even though Dome-Kwabenya does not fall within the category of orphan constituencies, the seemingly quiet electoral area has witnessed and is yet to witness one of the greatest political rivalry in its history, ahead of the parliamentary primaries in June.

The incumbent MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo has been criticized by many, for her lethargic attitude towards steering the affairs of the constituency. Isaac Amofa is poised to cause one of the biggest political upsets in the history of the constituency.
