Security Expert clarifies issues on ECOWAS

Fri, 3 Feb 2012 Source: --

Accra, Jan. 31, GNA – Dr Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, Director of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) on Tuesday explained that the statement that “ECOWAS is a joke,” attributed to him was an unfortunate media attribution. He said, “the attribution which forms part of the general comments last week on the issue of Boko Haram, which I consider as a threat to the sub-regional peace and security was unfortunately truncated to reflect an unfortunate and incorrect presentation of ECOWAS. Dr Aning was quoted by the media last week that the terror campaign of Boko Haram in Nigeria posed a major security threat to West Africa and called on ECOWAS to intervene to deal with the insurgency. “The potential threat of Boko Haram is not only to Nigeria but to the whole of the West African sub-region,” he told a section of the Ghanaian media in Accra.
