Islamic Cleric declares 3 days fasting and prayers for NDC victory ahead of elections

Dr. Abu Dujana Basha Ibn Bayaan, Founder and Leader of Darul Tawheed, an Islamic Institute based in Tamale in the Northern Region, has declared three days of fasting and prayers for the NDC ahead of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

The three-day fasting and prayers will take place from December 4 to December 6.

The revered Islamic cleric, who is also the son of Sheikh Ibrahim Basha, Founder of Nuriya Islamic Institute and Head of Ahlul Sunnah wal Jama'a in the Northern Region, explained that the fasting and prayers are intended to seek Allah’s favor for the NDC’s victory.

“This fasting is to pray to Allah to help us achieve what we want, and that is by making President Mahama the next President of Ghana,” Dr. Abu Dujana stated.

Speaking at a peace dialogue organized in Tamale on Saturday, Dr. Abu Dujana urged the NDC to ensure peace during the elections.

“There’s no way we’ll achieve that if we involve violence in the elections. We can only get President Mahama as the next president-elect if we go by peaceful elections. So, I’m telling the NDC youth that violence will not help the NDC, causing problems will not help the NDC, and getting involved in destruction will not help the NDC in this particular election,” he emphasized.

He further urged party members to exercise patience on election day, as he believes that is the only way to ensure victory.

“On December 7, you all have to be extra patient. It is not in the interest of the NDC for violence to erupt on election day. So, even when an electoral officer mistakenly or deliberately changes the NDC’s figures on election day, calmly alert him of the error. All you have to do is to be extra vigilant and extra patient,” Dr. Abu Dujana advised.

Explaining his decision to support the NDC, the cleric stated that he believes Ghana needs change.

He urged all Ghanaians to join efforts to rescue the country from the NPP, claiming, “They have put us in hardship; nothing is working in this country.”
