It goes beyond academic excellence to succeed - Reverend Minister

Reverend (Rev) Maxwell Owusu Basoah of Tinkong Methodist Church has observed that, it goes beyond academic excellence to succeed.

He said the educational system needed to produce products that could excel academically and have the character to positively contribute to their lives, family and the society.

He said the graduates produced by the educational system needed to be trained to know how to live according to their needs and not their wants.

Rev Bosoah was speaking as the Guest speaker at the second graduation ceremony of the Koforidua Wesley Methodist Junior High School (JHS) at Koforidua.

He suggested that Methodist schools should be headed by Methodist teachers to ensure that pupils trained in Methodist schools were inculcated with the character to be good examples for society.

Right Rev Emmanuel Asare-Kusi, Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Methodist Church urged the new graduates to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by the current educational system.

He advised the pupils not to relax in their efforts, but continue to press on since the completion of the JHS was the beginning of their educational career.

The Eastern Regional Manager of the Methodist Education Unit, Ms Dora Agyemang Kwakye said the Methodist Church was much interested in the quality of students produced by their schools and therefore called on the new graduates to avoid activities meant for adults.

The Headmistress of the school, Ms Freda Laako Opata appealed to the old students of the school and the Betom community to help construct a fence wall around the school to help improve upon the security of the school.
