A communication officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region, Gabriella Tetteh, has taken a swipe at a communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Ekua Amoakoh over remarks questioning the NDC government's investment in the police service.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on November 4, 2024, she emphasised that after eight years in government, the NPP should not be asking the NDC about their contributions to the security service.

Gabriella Tetteh stressed the need for rapid response to armed robbery incidents in the country rather than prolonged discussions that shift blame to the opposition party.

"Immediately the report comes that there is an armed robbery, the system is supposed to pick it up. You don't wait for 48 hours, and you come and give a long lecture that Bawumia has done this.

"That is not the conversation we are having. The most annoying conversation anybody can ever start with me is what have you done? Madam, you have been in government for the last 7 years, this is going to be your 8th year and don't ever ask that question again."

She added "Coming from a doctor, it is an unintelligent question. Close to a decade and you are comparing resources from 2015, 2016 to resources given in 2024. Are we living in 2016? Be serious."

She was hopeful the NDC's proposed 24-hour economy model, would enhance security measures in the country.

"We have a security team. That is made up of the best of the security service, many of them have come on retirement but they are helping us to design a model around the 24-hour economy and I am very sure these issues (armed robbery) have been factored into the policy framework," she noted.

Dr Ekua Amoakoh pointed out that the NPP has invested in security infrastructure, citing the acquisition of 11,000 cameras and plans for an additional 15,000.

"I was asking you what you added to the security service. That is one thing I don't understand about the NDC. They will never propose a policy, it will be only to complain. What is your solution? We are saying we brought 11,000 thousand cameras, we are bringing 15,000 more.

"In the US, are you saying with all the infrastructure they have, don't they have robbery? It takes time, let's give the police same time.

"Before, under your time, they wouldn't have been able to get this lead. This lead wouldn't have existed. So, let's give them the time do they what they are doing. What did you do for the police service? Absolutely nothing," she noted.

The two communicators were reacting to the robbery incident at the Adabraka Market on November 2, 2024, where suspects targeted a jewellery shop.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that they are actively pursuing the suspects involved in the incident.
