"It is not a crime for Christian to be a politician"-Ofosu-Ampofo

Koforidua, Dec. 30, GNA - Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the Eastern Regio= nal Minister, said on Wednesday that it is not a crime for a Christian to be a politician. "It is not a crime for the Christian to be in politics since politic= s is about people and Christian ministering is also about people." Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said while politicians looked at the social welfare of the people, the pastor also looked at the spiritual welfare of the people and this together brings about a holistic welfare outlook.

The Eastern Regional Minister said this when speaking in Koforidua at the Youth Camp Meeting of the Great Commission Church International (GCCI). The camp meeting was attended by members of the national executive council of the church and a cross section of the youth from the southern sector of the church. The theme for the occasion was 93A New Beginning". Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo told the youth that the fundamental underpinning for a new beginning was discipline.

"Discipline is very fundamental in our quest for a new beginning. Discipline in our social lives and discipline in our national lives are the bases for national development," he said "Discipline is where you do not look beyond your shoulders to check= if someone is looking at you or not; but rather listening to that small voice that tells you this is not good, do not do it, or this is good do it." Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said obedience to time was very important and expressed worry that many Ghanaians take time for granted thus undermined national development.

He advised the youth to exercise self- control in everything that they do adding that self- control is a 93fruit of discipline". The regional minister then outlined the government's vision which he said included investing in people, building a strong economy and providing an accountable and honest government. He challenged church leaders to encourage their youth to go into agriculture since agriculture is the future of the country.
