The National Organizer of the ruling NDC, Kofi Adams has said the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has no right to declare Election results in the country arguing that the largest opposition can only work around the EC’s final results of the polls by tabulating its own set of results collated from the polling stations.
This he said is to cross-check with the official results that will be declared at the end of the polls.
Adams who sounded scandalized by the supposed declaration of election results by the NPP come November 2016 said such move would be an absurd situation prohibited by law if that was exactly the claim of the Elephant party.
“I think some level of foolishness can be tolerated in elections but when it gets to absurd level sorry to say it cannot continue that way, …then you must as well go and conduct your own elections ” he added.
The Campaign Manager of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, following the backlash on his alleged claim has clarified that his party rather intends to collate a parallel results that will be run side by side with the EC’s own for the purpose of clarity and accuracy.
This comes after media reports cited an alleged claim by Peter Mac Manu saying that the NPP would defy authority in the country, including the Electoral Commission (EC), to declare its own election results.
However NDC’s Kofi Adams even after the denial by the NPP contended that the largest opposition will still do nothing out of the ordinary for what it claims to be a parallel tabulation that will be run alongside the EC’s official results.
“The NPP don’t want to learn and they continue to put out their fooling and expect everybody to follow. You’re given individual results sheets from various polling stations at the constituencies. You then do collation at the constituencies level. At that point you have a representative whose duty it is to compare whatever results that is brought by the Presiding officer to the returning officer with your constituency collation forms because every agent you present at the polling station is given results at the end of declaration at the polling centre. So before you sign off your results at the constituency collation centre you would have checked. At the EC where we used to describe as strong room, before the team there will accept any constituency results, they would have processed in their region that truly this was what was collated for a particular constituency.”
