Eddie Nketiah Snr, the father of Crystal Palace forward Eddie Nketiah, has insisted that the decision over whether his son will represent Ghana rests entirely with the player himself.

Nketiah’s international future became a major talking point after reports emerged that Ghanaian football authorities had renewed efforts to convince the striker to switch allegiance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The possibility of the former Arsenal forward joining the Black Stars divided opinion among supporters, while some welcomed the prospect of adding a Premier League attacker to the squad, others argued that players who helped Ghana qualify for the tournament should be prioritised.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Nketiah’s father revealed that he has repeatedly been asked about the issue but stressed that he would not influence his son’s choice.

“I’ve had that question over a hundred times and I think it’s a question that he has to answer,” he said.

He explained that Nketiah’s situation is unique given his dual nationality and upbringing.

“When you have a kid of dual nationality and of course he loves Ghana and he was brought up there (England), he’s been through the English system and he is of age so I leave him to make those decisions,” he added.

According to him, there have been approaches from Ghanaian officials regarding the player, but the final call remains with Nketiah.

“I speak to him and like I said, he has to make that call,” he said.
