Lawyer Foh Amoaning, a private legal practitioner has said, it was improper for the 3-member committee set up to review and investigate the Ameri deal to accept a sponsorship package from the same firm they investigated.
The Minority at a press conference addressed by the former Power Minister, Kwabena Donkor under the Mahama administration alleged that, the Philip Addison committee had their plane tickets and hotel bills paid by Ameri when they traveled outside the country as part of their investigative work.
Kwabena Donkor at the press conference quizzed: ‘’We want to ask; who paid for their tickets, who paid for their hotel accommodation? We have the evidence that Ameri energy paid for the hotel that they used, paid for their tickets.
“If you’re going to investigate someone, do they pay for your accommodation and host you? We are in a country of law, our side will not want to see an energy sector divided between NDC and NPP and therefore they should be candid with us’’
Responding to the allegation on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the lawyer said, the committee shouldn’t have taken anything from a company there were investigating if the allegation by the Minority, was factual or true.
‘’In my honest opinion, the committee shouldn’t have taken anything from the company they were investigating. Government should have paid for the tickets and other expenses for the committee.
That is unethical. In his view, accepting the sponsorship may comprise the final decision or recommendation by the committee.
