Lawyer Ace Ankomah says Ghana will be in ‘another trouble’ should government decide to abrogate the AMERI contract.

According to him, “per the contract if we abrogate the deal, we will pay the cost of the five years…which will be more than the price of keeping it."

An investigation conducted by a Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang (VG) has suggested that the AMERI power deal was signed with a Norwegian fraudster at an inflated cost of $510 million.

The story claims the cost of the gas turbines is around 220 million dollars and not the 510 million dollars Ghana paid.

When the issue emerged, many were those who suggested that government cancels the contract and go in for their money.

However, according to Ace Ankomah, ‘that is impossible’.

He told Kwami Sefa-Kayi in an interview on Wednesday that “you cannot go and sign a contract, and then later you decide to abrogate the contract. You were not forced to sign the contract. It was out of your own volition and even approved by parliament. There are rules of International contract. The question we should ask our political leaders; was it the best deal they could get for us."
