Ivorian refugees living in Ghana are demanding the release of their former president, Laurent Gbagbo from detention before they return to Cote d’ Ivoire.
According to the refugees based at Brekum Fetentaa in the Brong Ahafo region, they have received a letter from the minister of Foreign Affairs compelling them to return to their country.
Gbagbo who was arrested in 2011 after he refused to concede defeat in that country’s election is being tried by the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity.
But the refugees are blaming the current administration led by Alassane Ouattara for the bloody clashes in the aftermath of the elections which claimed thousands of lives in the country.
One of the Ivorian leaders, Alex Herve in an interview with Starr News said the current Ivorian government is putting up appearances to gain favour in the international community.
“Why have they put Laurent Gbagbo and his wife in jail, what did they do," Herve asked.
Over a thousand refugees are currently living in Brekum Fetentaa which happens to be the smallest refugee camp of Ivorians in the country.
