JJ's Daughter To Wed a Royal?

Sun, 10 Sep 2000 Source: Independent

Wedding is here The Royal The three-day official visit of the sultan of Brunei Darussalam Sir Muda Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzadin Waddaulah to the country is now history. And as Ghanaians keep wondering about the direct effects of the visit on the local economy, bits of information filtering into The Independent indicate that at least one family may benefit immensely from the courtesy call of the man reported to be the second richest individual.

According to close watchers of the First Family of Ghana, the trip by the Sultan and his family was to finalize an impending marriage between Ezenator Rawlings and one of the sons of the Sultan who is a student in the United Kingdom.

The watchers say that the unprecedented musical exhibition by Miss Rawlings at the Banquet Hall in Accra, where the Sultan was the guest of honour, “was just the setting for the young lady to declare her love for the Sultan’s son in public” a source said.

And to seemingly give credence to this belief, Ezenator joined the Marriot International Dance Band to sing her version of Celine Dion’s hit tune ‘Everything I do’, a tune that has become familiar to viewers of the Soap Opera BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL.

Bedecked in a colourful and well-tailored Kente outfit, her performance was quite a sight for eyes starving for beautiful scenes in this country. The role of Ezenator was perceived as unusual by many people who graced the occasion, but with the spin on her involvement with a well-heeled prince in the air, she can be granted some peace.

The rendition of the song ended with Miss Rawlings being embraced by the Sultan and some members of his family. This group included a young male who is said to be one of the most eligible bachelors of the Sultanate. He is the one who could end up as the husband of President Jerry John Rawlings’ favourite daughter. The possible liaison between the two started making the rounds earlier this year when the President paid a visit to the Sultanate of Brunei.

On the way from the grounds of the banquet, Ezenator sat in a vehicle with one of the wives of Sultan Bolkiah. The lady is believed to be the mother of the future son-in-law of Ghana.

If the report turns out to be true and the two are joined in matrimony, the possible heartache that Ezenator may have endured in her break up with Selassie O’Sullivan Djentuh may be thrown into the past.

The same outcome could then explain the zeal with which the First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings jumped into the fray over the alleged abduction and shaving of Selassie (with her infamous identification shave remark).

“The onus was on the family to uphold the honour of Ezenator in the eyes of her prince whose family was incidentally arriving in the country within days in which an allegation of infidelity had been made against her” a source said.

Such a wedding would be a match up of two fathers-in-law trained by the British military establishment, and a couple tutored by the great educational institutions of the United Kingdom.

Ghana could become a beneficiary of the legendary largesse of the Sultan if the marriage is consummated. In 1987, this sultan donated 10 million American dollars to the Contra Rebels fighting the Sandinista government. The mismanagement of the amount attracted huge media attention in the United States of America during Congressional probes into the Contra Affair.
