JOY FM reporter adjudged 2010 Journalist of the year

Accra, Sept. 10, GNA=96Mr Kwaku Owusu Peprah, Western Regional Correspondent of Joy FM, an Accra-based radio station, has been adjudged winner of the 16th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Professor P.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year 2010 Award. He was also adjudged the Best Rural Reporter, a category sponsored by the government.

The 11-member GJA Awards Committee, which scrutinized the entries for the awards adjudged Mr Peprah's story on Millennium Development Goals (five) as meeting all the requirements of the most-prized Ghanaian journalism award.

Mr John Tia Akologu, who deputized for the Vice President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, and Mr David Mureithi, Managing Director of Unilever West Africa, presented a plaque and a certificate to Mr Peprah for winning the Best Journalist Award which was held at the Banquette Hall of the State House in Accra on Friday. Mr Peprah's prize, which is valued at GH? 37,500, also includes a trip to the United States of America to undertake an attachment with a renowned media house, interact with some journalists and visit a historical site in that country, courtesy Unilever Ghana Limited sponsor of the Best Journalist Award.

In a brief remark, Mr Peprah said he was humbled and thanked God for making it possible to be crowned the best Journalist for 2010. He also thanked his colleagues for the cooperation and encouragement. Other journalists who were adjudged winners of various categories were also presented with plaques and certificates.

They included; Ms Hannah Asomaning (Mrs Awadzi) of the Ghana News Agency(GNA), (Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene), Mr Kafui Kanyi, (Environmental Sanitation and Water) Fati Shaibu Ali, Etv, and the Team Graphic, Daily Graphic, (Education), Naa Lamiley Bentil, Daily Graphic, (Environment) and Ms Lucy Adoma Yeboah and Mrs Rebecca Quaicoo-Duho, both of Daily Graphic (HIV and AIDS).

The rest were; Mr Richard Sky, Citi FM, (Health), Ms Odelia Ofori, TV3, (MDGs), Kofi Yeboah, Daily Graphic, (Agriculture), Asamoah Tuffuor, Ghanaian Times, (Crime and Court Reporting), Sammy Darko, Joy FM, (Political Reporting) Manasseh Awuni, GBC/Freelance, (Human Rights with Focus on Child Rights), Vicky Wereko, Daily Graphic/Freelance, (Best Columnist), Samuel Dowuona, Adom FM, (Telecommunications).
