Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, the Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, has made a passionate appeal to the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking during an engagement between the flagbearer and members of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the chief urged the flagbearer to ensure the retrieval of all state resources looted under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration, while also ensuring the prosecution of all culpable persons.
“I am pleading with you, if you get the opportunity to be president, go after everyone who has looted state money because there is none left except the one left in pockets; that which has been kept under people’s beds is what you will have to retrieve. So, we are begging you, jail whoever deserves to be jailed,” he appealed.
He also bemoaned the seeming silence of traditional and religious leaders in the country in holding the government to account.
“Our priests and chiefs, even when we see something in plain white, do not want to talk about it now. Now, everyone is pretending not to be a Ghanaian, even pastors are pretending not to be Ghanaian,” he stated.
Nana Bosomprah also called out the Electoral Commission for refusing to accept the NDC’s calls for a forensic audit of the voter register.
The chief noted that the significance of an independent audit of the register goes to the heart of the integrity in the pending general elections and therefore, challenged the EC to avail the register to an audit.
The NDC held a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday to press the Electoral Commission for a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the December 7 general elections.
According to the party, it has identified various discrepancies in the existing voter roll which would require a thorough independent audit to resolve.
The party, at the end of Tuesday’s protest, presented a petition to the commission to press home their demands.
