Jail corrupt Mahama appointees – NDC group tells Akufo-Addo

Pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) pressure group, Action Movement, has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to jail appointees of former President John Mahama, who allegedly engaged in corrupt practices.

The group made the call on Wednesday at an electric press conference in Accra, saying Nana Akufo-Addo should crack the whip on individuals, who allegedly undertook dubious deals under the previous Mahama-led NDC administration which was notorious for corruption.

There have been several calls on the President to prosecute individuals who abused their office under the previous regime to loot the state for their private gains.

“For the President of the day, Nana Akufo-Addo, Action Movement wants to add its voice to the loyal Ghanaians who are calling on him to lawfully deal with people in the past government who have mismanaged funds or taken state money,” Kodzo Hamenya, leader of Action Movement, who addressed the media, said.

“That is the only way the resources of Ghana can get to individuals who are in need for support,” he added.

Scandals

Many secret and corrupt deals have been uncovered upon the assumption of office of New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Some of the recent cases of corruption unearthed by the NPP administration include the alleged withdrawal of $4 million from the accounts of the National Communication Authority (NCA) by its former officials who were mostly appointees of ex-President Mahama.

Officials of the NCA reportedly contracted an Israeli company, NSO Group Technology Limited, to supply listening equipment at the cost of $6 million to enable National Security monitor conversations of persons suspected to be engaged in terror activities.

A local agent, Infraloks Development Limited, was also charging $2 million to facilitate the transaction, bringing the total sum to $8 million.

Another case of corruption, which allegedly took place under the previous Mahama administration, is the alleged $1.2 million scandal that has hit the former Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Dr George Crentsil.

He has been cited in a damning investigative report that alleges that he collected $1.2 million kickback from a contractor undertaking construction work for the Authority.

Action Movement called on the President not to allow such individuals, who have allegedly ‘stolen’ from the state and deprived millions of suffering Ghanaians of basic necessities of life, to go scot-free.

According to the group, “It’s about time that we know that we have only one Ghana, and we have to take care of our resources. Mr. President is a must for you to jail any appointee from the previous government who misapplied him/herself.”

“Every appointee must take responsibility for his stewardship to the nation. It’s high time we name and shame so that those at the helm of affairs today will be careful in their roles,” the group said.
