The Dean of Business and Communication at Academic City University College, Prof. Enoch Opoku Antwi, has proposed jail terms and hefty fines for government officials who abandon projects started by their predecessors.

He suggested this at the George Ayittey Memorial Lectures organised by the Africa Centre for Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment (ACEYE) in Accra.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, Prof. Antwi pointed out that many citizens suffer economic losses due to such abandoned projects and urged Parliament to amend the constitution to penalise offenders.

"If found guilty, they must get a jail sentence and a hefty fine as well," he said.

He also advocated for the establishment of research and development hubs in Ghana to drive informed policy-making and enhance development efficiency.

Citing Italy's successful model, he highlighted the benefits of prioritising community and national needs, empowering students to conduct research, and attracting investor support.

"It is funded, it creates employment and then investors also come and help in that direction,” he said.
