Ignorance they say, is no excuse: This is precisely the message the incumbent National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, is giving in response to calls for his resignation ahead of the party’s National Executive contest by Mr. Paul Afoko.

“Go and learn the constitution of the party you want to lead,” Jake is reported to have told Afoko, as regards the latter’s call for an amendment of the party’s constitution in order to prevent incumbent national executive members seeking re-election from playing key-roles in the organization of party elections.

Mr. Paul Afoko, who is on record to have declared his intention to contest the chairmanship of the NPP, according to media reports, is of the view that the incumbency could work to the advantage of those national executive officers who are seeking re-election.

“How could one who is organizing an election also be one of the aspiring candidates?” Paul Afoko queried.

“Is it not a contradiction? They are like judge, jury and executioner in their own cause,” frustrated Afoko added.

Though the National Chairman of the NPP, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, is on record of not having any academic certificate to his credit; his response, according to some party insiders who spoke to The Informer, will haunt Mr. Paul Afoko in his quest to become the party’s next National Chairman.

In his free tutorial, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey made it abundantly clear to Mr. Afoko that, as far as the party’s constitution is concerned, the organization of the NPP’s national election is not the business of any private individual, but rests in the bosom of the National Election Committee (NEC), ably supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

According to him, his critics should educate themselves on the provisions of the party’s constitution, as to how elections are organized before making such demands.

“Go and study the rules of the party you want to lead,” the National Chairman is reported to have told Afoko and his likes.
