Six fresh, innocent lives lost; 3 others severely injured and yet no one is being held responsible, no one to hold culpable, no one to penalize to at least appease the souls of these young ones whose dreams were to change the world in their own little ways.

The lives of 6 beautiful and promising girls have been lost through the negligence of some irresponsible persons and yet again, there is not a single person to bear the cost, the families of the 6 children who died in the Jamra school building collapse will have to live with the pain of losing the very ones they looked to for a “change” in their lives while the blame game between school authorities and the Ghana Education Service remains.

Parents of the 6; Sheidatu Abdulai; 4 years, Christiana Duodu; 7 years, Esther Mensah; 6 years, Gladys Ampoful; 3 years, Hibatu Abdulai; 5 years, Joana Ayensu; 5 years, are devastated, but helpless as they are, the memories of their beloved children are the only compensation for them.

The accident which cost the lives of these dear ones stemmed from the dilapidated supposed classroom structure which evidently was in a terrible situation. This is just one out of several other examples of terrible situations facing persons living in deprived areas in parts of the country.

Will this be lesson enough to trigger a change in our educational system? Will it at least awaken the appropriate authorities to act and rebuild such “almost collapsed” structures to avoid any further harm? Or will this just be another instance of a terrible disaster that cost lives, made the news and vanished with time into thin air?
