Professor Charles Marfo Ofori, a former president of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been unsettled by the choice of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as running mate to former president John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, the NPP should not be taken seriously if they appoint a woman as running mate to their flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.
"If the NPP appoints a woman, it is going to be so clear that it is because of Jane. It has unsettled them, and we should not consider such a party as a serious one,' he said during a panel discussion on Oyerepa TV on April 29, 2024.
He added that the choice of a woman at the forefront of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seems to be forcing the NPP also name a woman as running mate.
"Jane has unsettled them, decapitated their strategies; that is how I see it. Not that I am canvassing for Matthew Opoku Prempeh, but that man has done well," he added.
Naana Jane was recently introduced as running mate to Mahama, having been retained by the former president from their unsuccessful 2020 ticket.
Bawumia, on the other hand, is yet to announce his running mate despite having been elected flagbearer in November 2023.
The Vice President has, meanwhile, kicked off his campaign on April 29, 2024, in the Eastern Region.
