Jantuah Slams NPP

Lawyer F. K. Jantuah, a Convention People's Party (CPP) leader in Kumasi, has kicked against the New Patriotic Party government's intention to formulate the country's economy through private enterprises.

He said good governance in this socio-economic and technological world could only succeed through public corporations, whereby the government would take total control over the production, marketing and share of profit. He has suggested that, measures like death sentence, life imprisonment, or long term jail should be employed to deal with the management of state enterprises found guilty of embezzlement.

Jantuah, who was speaking in a programme "Kyere W'adwen" on Radio Mercury in Kumasi, last week, said the billions of profits which private enterprises make could easily go to government chest if such companies were not divested. He believed that the country would turn around its economic woes if all the divested companies are taken back by the NPP government and ensure proper management.

Lawyer Jantuah, who was a former Secretary for Local Government, hinted that most of the big companies operated by foreigners in the country evade taxes, and said if such companies were supervised by government, all profits accruing would have gone into development of the country. Jantuah suggested that, if even a company needs to be divested, the state should have higher percentage.

He said it would be more appropriate for investors to establish new companies in the country than just maintain the existing ones for which Ghanaians could have partnership.
